About these fonts

Bold fonts do the shouting. Thick strokes and tight forms hold attention on thumbnails, posters, sale banners and social graphics, and they keep working at small preview sizes where lighter fonts disappear. The selection includes condensed headline sans (Anton, Fjalla One, Staatliches), a slab serif (Alfa Slab One) and rounded or geometric display faces.

Heavy fonts work best in short bursts. A few words in a bold display face, supported by a quieter font for details, reads clearly. Try your own headline in the preview to compare widths, because condensed fonts fit far more words per line than wide ones.

Licence and installation

Every font on this page comes from the open-source Google Fonts library and is free for personal and commercial use under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (a few under Apache 2.0). Each zip contains the font file, the licence text and a short readme. To install on Windows, unzip, right-click the font and choose Install; on Mac, double-click the file and click Install Font. The live previews show the regular weight and basic Latin characters; the downloads are the complete font files.

Frequently asked questions

Which bold font is best for YouTube thumbnails?

Anton and Bebas Neue-style condensed sans fonts are popular because they fit big words in a small space. Preview your actual title to check the fit.

Are heavy fonts readable at small sizes?

Most are fine as headings, but very heavy or decorative faces lose clarity in small text. Use them for large, short lines.

Can I use these fonts commercially?

Yes. They are open-licence fonts. Keep the licence file that is included in each download.
