Hearts & Love
There are two kinds of hearts here. Emoji hearts (❤️ 💙 💛) carry their own color. Text hearts such as ♥ or ♡ take the color of the text you paste them into, and can be resized or recolored like a letter.
That is why one heart can look red in a chat and black or outlined in a document. The classic ❤ (U+2764), for example, can appear black or colored depending on the system and on whether it is followed by the emoji selector character (U+FE0F).
Practical Tips
- For a bio or name in a single color, choose text hearts (♥, ♡). For chats, colored emoji hearts work better.
- Pair a heart with words instead of a long row of hearts. Screen readers read “red heart” once for every emoji.
- After pasting into a profile or website, check the look on both mobile and desktop before publishing.
- Text hearts work well as separators between phrases or at the start of a line.
How to Use Hearts & Love

- Paste it with Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac).
- Check how it looks: the final appearance depends on the font of the device.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ❤️ and ♥?
❤️ is an emoji with its own color. ♥ is a text symbol (the hearts suit from playing cards) and takes the color of the text around it.
Why does my heart show up black?
Your system is showing it as a text symbol instead of an emoji. Try another heart from the collection or copy the emoji version.
Can I put hearts in my username?
It depends on the platform. Many allow symbols in the display name but not in the @username. Test before changing anything important.
How symbols look depends on the font and system of each device. We have not tested them on every device. Updated: October 2026
