Currency Symbols
Currency symbols are ordinary Unicode characters: they paste as text, can be searched, and display correctly in any modern font. Copying the symbol is better than inserting an image, especially in prices, spreadsheets and messages.
One important detail: the dollar sign $ is used by many countries (US dollar, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Mexican peso and others). If your text may be read in several countries, add the currency code (USD, CAD, MXN) to avoid confusion.
Practical Tips
- In English-speaking countries the symbol usually goes before the amount ($10); in many European countries it goes after (10 €). Follow your audience’s convention.
- On a Windows PC, the euro sign € can be typed with Alt + 0128 on the numeric keypad. On many European keyboards, AltGr + E also works.
- In longer texts, use a non-breaking space between the amount and a symbol that comes after it, so they stay on one line.
- If you paste a price into a spreadsheet, it may stay as text. To calculate, use the currency number format of your spreadsheet.
How to Use Currency Symbols
- Click on any symbol to copy it to your clipboard.
- Open the app or website where you want to use it.
- Paste it with Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac).
- Check how it looks: the final appearance depends on the font of the device.
